Pitxorines

The traditional Mallorcan songbook with splashes of jazz, classical music and sound eclecticism

“Pitxorines” is the musical project of nine women that was born almost a year ago with the purpose of recovering the traditional Mallorcan songbook with splashes of jazz, classical music and sound eclecticism, a mixture of styles, sounds and instruments that we will have opportunity to enjoy this new edition of the Cool Days Festival 2024.

Pitxorines is a word practically out of use, specific to Manacor, which is used to talk about young, cheerful and flattering girls. The word also got out in the Mallorcan Rondalles.

All the members of the group, formed by Aina Tramullas (voice), Maria Adrover (flabiol and tamborino, xeremies, flute and voice), Rosa Garcias (flute and voice), Maria Antònia Gili (flugel and vocals), Sinéad Cormican (violin and voice), Carmela Cristos (cello and vocals), Masé Jara (double bass and vocals), Sílvia Rechac (piano and vocals) and Bel Miquel (percussion and vocals), are active musicians with their own musical projects who live between Barcelona and different towns in Mallorca.

Last January they recorded their first album, Un so qui no es gasta, published by Produccions Blau and financed with a micro-donation on the Verkami platform which was achieved in just one week and with great participation success. The recording includes nine songs that they have arranged with their personal label, respecting the essence of the lyrics and melodies, but adding their touch of modernity and freshness. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jaume Blàzquez, and features the musical production and arrangements of the group’s own members.
